Mark Zuckerberg’s Visit & Vision for Nigeria:

Sure the Name Mark Zuckerberg rings a bell in your ears: Any tech savvy individual should know who mark is: without a doubt, he has made remarkable achievements with his Innovative creation: Facebook, His passion and success has sparked up a revolution around the world, Inspiring tech entrepreneurs to up their game and focus on transforming the world they live in through their Innovations

As of March this year, Facebook had hit over 1.65 billion monthly active users out of which 7.1 million people are daily users from Nigeria. This makes the country Africa’s biggest user of the social media platform.

One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria where young developers learn how to code and develop their solutions while looking for mentors and angel investors. At CcHub, Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa,  Thrilled by the level of technology development at the CcHub, Mark Zuckerberg, said, “This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can.

why the visit to Nigeria?

Mark has been engaging Nigerian entrepreneurs and startups for  a while, with the recent $24 million investment in Andela from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative being a prime indicator. Facebook also launched FreeBasics in Nigeria a few months back

There is going to be a Facebook Developer’s event Today being the 31th of August 2016. the venue is unknown for security reason: the event would strictly be by coded invitations: to get the jeek right?

Another reason for Mark being in the country may be to inspect Andela which he recently invested in.  He may also be on the look out for other viable startups which may eventually benefit from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
